Caring for the environment...
We believe we have a moral obligation to care for the environment. It is a principle that has guided us for more than a century, and runs throughout the company.
In fact, the team members of Port Blakely Tree Farms have literally set the standard for others to follow. Their research and engineering work on road building, maintenance, and water quality protections helped shape the regulatory standard in the state of Washington.
As part of our commitment, we entered into a 50-year Habitat Conservation Plan that protects wildlife habitat on 11,334 acres of our forestland in Washington state. In addition, we adhere to Washington's landmark Forests and Fish Law that protects salmon habitat and clean water on 60,000 miles of streams that flow through more than eight million acres of private forestland.
And in 2002, our dedication to sustainable forestry was officially recognized when we earned certification from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), a national program dedicated to forest stewardship.
