The Goats are Coming to Issaquah Highlands
The weeds don’t know it yet but the two herds of goats that ate their way across several open spaces last summer at Issaquah Highlands are coming back.
The herds will arrive mid-June and remain onsite through Highlands Day, June 26. They are expected to take two to three weeks to forage their way through weeds and high grass in some of the Highlands’ least-accessible places.
As a national model for sustainable community development, the Issaquah Highlands Community Association brings goats to the community as a cost-effective, fun and environmentally friendly part of Issaquah Highlands’ sustainable landscape management practices. They are able to mow, weed, and bag their clippings for as little as 25 percent of human crew and they can tackle invasive species control on steep slopes.
It’s no wonder Issaquah Highlands, developed by Port Blakely Communities, is among the top 10 green communities in the US. Visit Issaquah Highlands to see the goats in action, or visit www.issaquahhighlands.com to view more news and photos.
