For example, innovations in forest road construction to prevent silt from reaching salmon streams developed by Port Blakely Tree Farms were adopted and modified by Port Blakely Communities to apply to land clearing operations to preserve water quality during and after construction. Many of Port Blakely's innovations have been integrated into city, county, and state regulations.

At Issaquah Highlands, Port Blakely Communities turned an obligation into an amenity by creating a beautiful lake that serves double duty: It is a breathtaking addition to the scenery that also collects and cleanses storm water that eventually filters into fish-bearing streams.
