In the spirit of stewardship, Port
Blakely is dedicated to growing
sustainable forests, marketing sustainable forest
products and developing environmentally sensitive
communities to benefit current and future generations.
Integrity
We do what we say we’re going to do. We deal openly
and honestly with everyone, as we believe our reputation is
critical to our long term success.
Respect
Respect for others is a cornerstone for Port
Blakely. We respect the rights of others and understand that
we all deserve the respect that one human being should give
to another.

families, believing that when the needs of our employees and
their families are met, employees are able to focus and
excel in the workplace. We respect each employee’s ability
to accurately assess situations and needs, and encourage
local initiative and decision-making.

come. Our forestry practices and development standards are

awareness that we practice within two very sensitive
industries. We believe in working with regulators, and in
developing legislation that is mutually beneficial to the
environment and to business.

our customers, suppliers, contractors, regulators, business
partners, or employees.

goals, and we look for opportunities to reciprocate.

working, and a good sense of humor allows us to laugh at
ourselves and keep life in perspective.
Business Decisions
When making business decisions that raise ethical concerns, ask yourself following questions to ensure you are making the best decision:
- Am I acting consistently within the values of the company?
- Am I adhering to not only the letter, but also the spirit of the law or policy?
- Would I want my actions reported on the front page of a newspaper?
- What would my family, friends, colleagues or neighbors think of this decision?
- Are there potentially any harmful consequences to the company?
If you are uncertain as to what is proper, ask for help in making the decision.
Gifts
We strive to maintain an appropriate balance in our professional relationships with suppliers and customers. When a supplier or customer offers us gifts that can directly benefit us individually, we risk creating an imbalance in that relationship. We do not want to place ourselves in the position of having our business decisions affected through the receipt of such gifts.
Before accepting any gifts from suppliers or customers, ask yourself the following questions:
- How would it look to other people outside of the company? How would it look to my colleagues inside the company?
- Will I feel obligated to the customer/supplier as a result?
- Will I have difficulty terminating the relationship with this customer/supplier because of a feeling of obligation?
- Will my business decisions in any way be affected by my acceptance of this gift?
- Are there legal ramifications to my accepting this gift?
- Is this consistent with common business practices?
Regardless of whether or not a gift is accepted, each opportunity must be disclosed to your manager, in advance if possible, so that there is transparency and so that you can seek advice in dealing with the issue.
Resolving Business Conduct Concerns
Integrity is a cornerstone of the Company's values, and it is the intent of the Company to adhere to the highest standards of conduct in all areas of business operations.
Reporting of Suspected Misconduct Is Encouraged
Employees who observe or become aware of practices or conduct that they reasonably believe to be illegal, immoral, highly irresponsible, or so unusual as to raise suspicion, are encouraged to question that practice or conduct and report it to their supervisor. If for any reason the employee finds it difficult to discuss the concern with their supervisor, the employee is encouraged to discuss it with the Director of Human Resources, another member of senior management, or, in exceptional cases, a member of the Board of Directors.
Protection from Reprisal
It is the policy of the Company to deal openly and honestly with all issues. The Company both (1) encourages employees to report suspected misconduct, and (2) has put in place a policy to protect those employees from reprisal and retaliation.
Members of senior management and Board of Directors will maintain a policy of open communication with all employees, and will treat reporting of possible misconduct in a manner that is sensitive to the rights and concerns of all employees, and protects those who report questionable practices or misconduct.
Confidentiality
Employees who are unsure of what action to take when faced with an apparent matter of questionable practice or misconduct are encouraged to make contact with their Division President, Director of Human Resources, the Chief Financial Officer or the Chief Executive Officer. If the employee wishes to maintain anonymity, such contact may be made in a confidential manner and in an environment of confidentiality. Although confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, the Company will use its best efforts to protect those who report suspected misconduct.
Appropriate Action to be Taken
Management and Board members to whom questions of misconduct are raised will investigate the matter and take appropriate action, and shall have the authority at their sole discretion to seek legal counsel from the Company's law firm on matters they reasonably believe have criminal or other legal consequences. Reasonable care will be taken in dealing with suspected misconduct to avoid baseless allegations, premature notice to persons suspected of misconduct, and violations of persons' legal rights.
