Helping Christchurch Recover
The earthquake that devastated Christchurch on 22 February will not be forgotten by those of us in New Zealand, nor by our friends abroad. In response to this tragedy, Blakely Pacific has contributed $20,000 to three charities whose services we believe are urgently needed and critical to the recovery of the Christchurch community.
Relationship Services: This charity was located in the CTV building, which collapsed and burned after the earthquake. Relationship Services offers counseling and education.
Cholmondeley Children’s Home: This charity provides care and shelter to children whose families are experiencing difficulties.
Christchurch Women’s Refuge: This charity strives to prevent violence against women and provides support and refuge to victims of domestic violence.
Our Charitable Committee
The Blakely Pacific Charitable Committee purpose is to distribute funds in a way that enhances the lives of the stakeholders of the company. Blakely Pacific believes in sharing the benefits from the company's forests through to those who are involved in the local communities.
Giving back is a priority to us. We demonstrate our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we operate through financial contributions, as well as in-kind work or forest access for communities to raise funds. The Geraldine primary school has raised more than $12,000 over the last two years by using our forests for motorbike fundraising events. The International Silver Fern Rally of New Zealand uses Blakely Pacific's forests for key stages of their international event. In turn, this event benefits the communities neighbouring our forests through the many thousands of dollars that participants and visitors spend during the event.
Our commitment to local communities is a source of pride for us at Blakely Pacific Ltd. We operate a sponsorship committee that meets twice a year to grant funds to organisations and events like local sports teams, play centres, school camps and hunting tournaments.
