Layers of a Forest
Objectives
- Students will read the Animals of Port Blakely Fact Sheet to determine in what layer(s) of the forest various animals might live.
- Students will work cooperatively to complete a Forest Layer Worksheet where they write in animal names under each layer of the forest.
- Students will verbally explain their choices for each animal.

- The student will work cooperatively in a group.
Materials
- Animals of Port Blakely Fact Sheet (1 per group)
- Forest Layer Worksheet (1 per student)
Procedure
- Divide students up into groups of 3-4.
- Distribute copies of the Animals of Port Blakely Fact Sheet.
- Distribute Forest Layer Worksheet and read aloud with the students.
- Have each group decide what layer of the forest each animal would live in (from the Animals of Port Blakely Fact Sheet).
- Discuss with the class where they would put each animal and why.
Extension
- Have students write a description of forest life from an assigned animal's perspective, and accompany it with a drawing of the forest also from the animal's perspective.
