Pre-Lessons
Forest Research
Objectives
- Students will use various sources, including the internet and library, to complete a research organizer about forests.

Materials Needed
Procedure
- Schedule library and/or computer lab time for your class.
- Introduce or review with students the basics of research on the internet and in the library.
- Model a basic internet search, and review internet safety.
- Model a basic search in the library, and show them how to find information in a book by using the table of contents and the index.
- Hand out a research organizer to each student. Explain that they will complete this sheet by conducting research in the library and on the internet.
- Note: You may want to give students a list of websites and/or books to use. Use our Port Blakely Student Website, Kid’s Links and Suggested Reading to get them started!
Extension
- Writing: Have your students use the research organizer to write a paragraph or essay, depending on level, about forests.
