Irrigation Specialist

Landscape Manager

This document is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and is not an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities and skills required of the position. 

Purpose/ Overview

 

Responsible to maintain, repair and upgrade community landscapes and irrigation systems as directed, maximize the efficiency of irrigation water usage, maintain non-potable irrigation system, responsible for implementing water conservation plan.

% Of Time

Implement and maintain the irrigation plan for the community:

§  Maintain and repair all related systems (controls, valves, pipe, sprinklers, etc.) as necessary and as directed by Landscape Manager.

§  Monitor & maintain the Weather Reach/ET Manager and related control system technology, to insure equipment is functioning as intended to maximize water use, expense and efficiency.  Adjust irrigation schedules as directed.

§  Monitor and maintain irrigation system performance (uniformity), perform hydraulic, electrical and mechanical analysis and troubleshooting. Maintain non-potable water supply storage, pumps, transmission lines, and components.

Perform miscellaneous and seasonal tasks as directed by the Landscape Manager:

§  General landscape and infrastructure maintenance as needed, and as seasons dictates.

§  May include light carpentry, painting, concrete work and other facilities maintenance tasks as needed. 

§  Other seasonal landscape maintenance work could include leaf control, pruning, planting and other duties.

§  Responsible to maintain and clean all equipment and work vehicles.

§  Irrigation sleeving for driveways, kiosks, etc.

Working Conditions

(Describe working conditions that impact the job-including physical requirements or conditions)

While performing the duties of this job the employee is in a typical field environment, is required to regularly walk, sit, talk or hear and stand, tolerate working extended periods in inclement weather, with possible requirement of confined space entry.  Frequent use of hand tools, safety equipment, computers, cell phones, and other specialized industry equipment (possibly including rented power equipment such as a backhoe), is required.  Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.  Frequent interaction with vendors.  Frequent interruptions of work flow including questions from residents.

 

Valid Washington State Driver’s License with a driving record free from serious or frequent violations required as position requires use of Community electric vehicles for transportation within Issaquah Highlands. 

 

Qualifications/ Competencies

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.

  • Education/Experience – A minimum of three years experience, or a combination of experience and post-secondary education in ornamental landscape maintenance or horticulture and familiarity with soils, drainage, and landscape and irrigation maintenance.  Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor preferred.  Post-secondary education in horticulture or irrigation preferred.  Proficiency in irrigation system maintenance and repair, grounding, pumps, familiarity with irrigation design, installation, product performance, and scheduling.  Desires experience with weather-based control technology, central controls, familiarity with Weather Reach/ET Manager a plus.  Ideal candidate will have familiarity with local and regional native and ornamental plants, pests and their culture.
  • Language Ability – Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, builders and the general public.  Working knowledge of Spanish a plus.
  • Math Ability –Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as those commonly found in irrigation and hydraulics calculations.  Work with areas, time and volumes.
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve practical problems related to irrigation, hydraulics, and electricity. 
  • Computer/Technical Skills - e-mail, Outlook Calendar, and other specialized software applications are utilized frequently.  Must be adept at low-voltage electrical work such as clock repairs, replacement and trouble-shooting, and pump controls.
  • Other Competencies/Characteristics – The ability to be flexible, organized with a strong orientation to detail/quality work and positive interpersonal skills are required.  Ideal candidate will be adept at tracking costs and time spent on repairs and other activities.  Must maintain a professional, helpful customer-friendly demeanor. Skilled with a team work concept, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
